Simonds Pond Dam and Goodfellow Pond Dam

Client: City of Leominster
Location: Leominster, MA
Project Description: TFCI was the general contractor for the reconstruction of two high hazard dams in Leominster, Massachusetts. The project involved the historic restoration of the Goodfellow Pond dam which was built over 100 years ago. TFCI removed the vegetation and sinkhole ridden stepped masonry spillway and utilized the salvaged boulders to historically reconstruct the stepped spillway system. The Simonds Pond dam was reconstructed with the installation of approximately 2,000 cubic yards of cast-in-place concrete and 20,000 tons of earth materials. The dam modifications required extensive drinking water and raw water bypass installations which included the installation of large diameter HDPE siphons to protect the work area from fluctuation reservoir flows. Working through the wettest consecutive months on record (May, June, 2006), the $3,500,000 project was still completed in one construction season; approximately six months ahead of schedule.
